Village Jamie Jolts To Flamboro Win
Veering off the rail into the lane, Village Jamie jetted past pacesetter Robintheatm and turned away a passing-lane bid from favourite Aint Three Ok to win the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace by a neck in 1:55.3.
Robintheatm, assigned the outermost post, cleared command from rail-starter Village Jamie and paced to the first quarter in :28.1 while two-and-a-half lengths ahead. She continued unchallenged through a :57.3 half and a 1:25.4 third quarter as driver Paul MacKenzie mounted his bid with Village Jamie entering the final turn. The five-year-old daughter of Mach Three slid to the front turning into the stretch as Aint Three Ok dove to the open stretch and settled for second. Robintheatm held third.
Owned by Liam Wallace, Village Jamie won her eighth race from 72 starts and surpassed $120,000 in earnings. The Todd Clements trainee returned $19.20 to win.
Barockey bested her competitors as the odds-on favourite when winning the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 co-feature going wire to wire in 1:57.2. The 10-year-old Mach Three mare secured an uncontested lead moving to a :28.3 opening quarter and then slowed towards a :59 half.
War Filly flew first over on the second lap to draw within a length of the lead past a 1:28.3 third quarter but soon stalled turning to the stretch while Barockey strolled to the finish a length better than pocket-rider Twice An Angel. War Filly held third.
Winning her 50th race from 257 starts, Barockey competes for owners Sylvain Descheneaux and Gaar Racing Stables. Alfie Carroll drove the $2.50 winner for trainer Richard Moreau.
