Willyorwonthe ($2.80) lived up to odds-on billing and proved a pillar-to-post winner in Wednesday evening's (Feb. 6) featured $11,500 Preferred 2 Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

With Liam Needsome, Absolut Seelster and Lady Caterina all scratched on account of deteriorating weather conditions in southwestern Ontario, Willyorwonthe was left with three rivals, along with a freezing rain which resulted in sloppy going and a four-second track variant. Alfie Carroll sent the six-year-old Angus Hall gelding to a clear lead, and the pair controlled early splits of :29.4 and 1:00.1 while uncontested. With three-eighths to go, On The Ridge (Garrett Rooney) angled out from third and lifted to mildly engage Willyorwonthe on the final turn.

Turning for home, Willyorwonthe remained largely within himself despite his lead being cut to a length. He was hand-driven to the winning post to keep On The Ridge at bay by that one-length margin in 2:03.1. All Out Henry (Scott Coulter) was a one-paced third from the pocket, and Ionia (Nick Steward) was last of the quartet for the entire mile.

Bill Megens owns and trains Willyorwonthe, whose third win in five starts this year brings his career tally to 25.
