PEI Matinee Championships Set
The PEI matinee racetracks Challenge Series ends on Sunday, September 27th, with the Championship Finals at Red Shores Summerside Raceway
. Horses and drivers race at the five island tracks from June to September and amass points for their order of finish. The top eighteen horses are divided into three divisions of six according to ability and will compete between the regular races.
The Challenge Series Final is the only race offering a small purse for these non-professionals and the competition will be fierce. Last year’s winning owner, Freeman Coughlin, has two entries in the “A” class, Springbrook Maple and Brace For The Chill, but they’ll face a stiff challenge from Leo Bernard’s points leader Little York Ed. The Department Of Agriculture Matinee Championship rotates classes annually and this year it will be the “A” class going for the glory and the trophy. Race 1, the first division, “C” class, will feature new driver Dana Sweet of O’Leary with his own Amanda Cananda.
