Yellow Diamond Sparkles In Gold
The field finished in post order, and the order remained the same at every call. That's how the $170,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final for three-year-old pacing fillies transpired on Tuesday afternoon at Kawartha Downs
.
Mark MacDonald used rail position to summon Yellow Diamond to the lead, with favoured Luc Ouellette sitting second with Shacked Up, followed by Coming Late (Gord Brown), Cheap Motel (Doug Brown) and the one non-Tracy Brainard trainee in the group, Northern Duchess (Mike Saftic). No one moved a muscle as the leader cut out sensible fractions of :29, :58, 1:26.1. Ouellette challenged past the three-quarter marker but Yellow Diamond had plenty in reserve and a :27 closer was enough to take home the lion's share of the purse in 1:53.1 for owner Bulletproof Enterprises of Boca Raton, Florida. In fact, Bulletproof took home 95 per cent of the purse with the sweep of first through fourth as Shacked Up finished second, Coming Late was third and Cheap Motel stayed for fourth.
The Gold Final win is the first of the season for Yellow Diamond (Western Terror-Mattatonic), who will vault from tenth in the Gold points standings to a position near the leaders with the win and only one Gold event left. Eliminations for that tilt are slated for October 2 at Mohawk with the final the following Friday, October 9 at Woodbine.
