Sintra Snags Mohawk Preferred
Sent the favourite, driver Jody Jamieson took the lead with Sintra and led every step to take the $34,000 Preferred Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday, Jan. 26.
The six-year-old Mach Three gelding faced little pressure moving towards the top in a :28.1 opening quarter and when slowing to the half in :57.2. Easy Lover Hanover, positioned fourth, angled first over appraoching three-quarters in 1:25.3 but stalled into the stretch as Sintra engaged in a final-quarter sprint. The Dave Menary trainee hit the finish in 1:52.1, one-and-three-quarter lengths better than pocket-sitter Nocturnal Bluechip with Easy Lover Hanover giving pursuit from third.
Owned by Brad Gray, Michael Guerriero and Menary Racing Inc., Sintra won his 21st race from 52 starts, earning $1,048,936. He paid $4.30 to win.
