Hanover Feature To Chasin Jiffy

Chasin Jiffy chased down pacesetter C Ws Special in Hanover Raceway’s Saturday feature, the Preferred #2 Pace, to earn the lion’s share of the $9,500 purse

.

C Ws Special (Doug McNair) led the field through panels of :27.4, :59 and 1:28.1 while favourite D M Coltfortyfive (James Ritchie) applied first-over pressure through the middle splits. Chasin Jiffy, who tracked the leader from the two-hole, waited until the stretch to kick lose. The Village Jiffy-Sincerely five-year-old used a :28-second final frame to come on for the mild 8-1 upset in 1:56.2.

C Ws Special finished a length back in second and 50-1 shot Full Circle Ben (Ross Battin) finished third.

James McClure did the driving for trainer Gary Mahon and his wife, owner Kim Mahon of Owen Sound, Ont. It was Chasin Jiffy’s seventh win of the season in 17 starts, giving him a good shot at winning the A B Fleishauer Horse of the Year award, which will be awarded on the final race day of the season. With his 12th lifetime score, Chasin Jiffy is just shy of $90,000 in earnings.

Hanover’s top two drivers were away for the Ontario Sires Stakes in Peterborough, so Mike Whelan (four) and Doug McNair (three) picked up the pieces winning seven of the 11 races between them. Bruce Richardson leads the driving standings with 43 wins - one more than Trevor Henry with just two race days left in the Hanover season.

Next Saturday is Timbr-mart night at Hanover Raceway and one fan will walk away with a $4,000 home renovation courtesy of Walkerton Timbr-mart and Murdock Timbr-mart in Durham. Hanover Raceway also welcomes patrons to their simulcast restaurant on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons for the Little Brown Jugette and Jug from Delaware, Ohio. Post time both days is 12 noon.

Post time next Saturday night for live harness racing is 7:15 p.m. and the season wraps up on Saturday October 3, with a special post time of 1:30 p.m.
