Jamieson Sweeps Bud Light Stakes

A pair of Bud Light Stakes for sophomore pacing colts headlined Flamboro Downs’s Saturday afternoon program and Jody Jamieson swept both divisions winning with favourites Carnivore and Lyons Horace

.

Carnivore delivered on his pari-mutuel promise in the first $43,302 division with Jamieson at the lines for owner/trainer Jack Darling. The Real Desire-Party Animal colt was quickest off the gate from the inside post position but Part Shark (Randy Waples) charged on to claim the lead form Post 4. Carnivore refused to sit a pocket tip and after the first quarter flashed up in :27.1 he re-took the top spot and glided past the remaining panels of :57 and 1:26.2 without facing any serious challengers. The bay colt kicked home in :27.2 to secure the three-length victory in a time of 1:53.4.

Part Shark stayed for second and longshot Shady Cam (Mike Saftic) journeyed first-over to grab third.

Carnivore, a runner-up to Well Said in his Simcoe Stakes division last week at Mohawk Racetrack, scored his second victory of the second in 13 outings. His eighth career-win bumped his earnings to $498,378.

In the second $44,092 split, Fast Pay (Paul MacDonell) showed early gate speed from the outside Post 6 and carved out opening fractions of :26 and :54.4 before Jamieson pulled Lyons Horace from the pocket and landed the lead at the 1:23.3 three-quarters mark. The Astreos-Hey Girl colt pulled away from the field by nearly three lengths turning for home, but had to hold off Stonebridge Terror (Mike Saftic) down the lane. Lyons Horace found the wire just in time to win by a neck in 1:52.4. Mild Mannered (Randy Waples) closed well to finish three-quarters of a length back in third.

Unraced as a two-year-old, Lyons Horace notched his eighth win boosting his bankroll to $290,582 for trainer Shawn Robinson and owner Joseph Lyons Mound of Burford, Ont.

Jamieson, one of North America’s leading drivers, won a total of six races on the 11-race card. The Cambridge, Ont. resident also won with Refraction (2:04.4) in Race 3 for trainer Les Posan, Ostinato (1:58.3) in Race 4 for Jason McGinnis, Philana Chalice (1:55.2) in Race 10 for Larry Gorman and King Kronos (1:56.3) in Race 11 for Craig Yates.
