Drunkonaplane Flies At Flamboro
Sweeping from last, Drunkonaplane fanned off cover heading into the stretch and soared to a length victory in the $11,500 Preferred 2 Handicap Pace at Flamboro Downs on Sunday, December 9.
Driver Colin Kelly positioned the four-year-old Rock N Roll Heaven gelding fifth as Toot Toot N took command from Imsporty past a :27.2 opening quarter. With no pressure passing the half in :56.1, Drunkonaplane caught cover in the backstretch from Linolnjames, who drew within a length of the leader passing three-quarters in 1:25.1.
Kelly kicked the Craig Gilmour trainee wide into the stretch and surged past Toot Toot N to post a 1:54.2 victory. Lincolnjames settled for third.
Owned by ICR Racing, Drunkonaplane won his seventh race in 29 starts this season and his 13th in 55 overall, earning $104,080. He paid $7.70 to win.
In the $8,500 Preferred 3 Pace co-feature, Rose Run Quest mounted a first-over challenge on pacesetter Smooth Mara N to win by a nose in 1:56. The six-year-old If I Can Dream gelding sat fourth through a :27.4 opening quarter and a :58 half before trainer-driver Jason Ryan angled first over. The two engaged past three-quarters in 1:27 and continued to race in tandem through the lane before Rose Run Quest bested Smooth Mara N at the wire. Pocket-sitter and race-favourite Par Intended held third.
Winning his 11th race in 25 starts this season and his 31st in 102 overall, Rose Run Quest has earned $150,958 and competes for Blair Hansen. He paid $15.00 to win.
