We received photo submissions from across the country that showed the true heart of harness racing. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to send us their photos! It was a difficult task for the selection committee to narrow it down to the final 12 images.
The calendar cover photo was selected to honour Cst. Sara Burns, one of the Fredericton N.B. police officers whose life was tragically taken in the line of duty this past August. Burns was part owner of Grimsby, a 10-year-old Admirals Galley gelding. Grimsby took part in the regimental funeral procession. The photo was taken on August 25 at Exhibition Park Raceway where Grimsby concluded his career with a second-place finish in his final outing before retirement.
The people involved in the Canadian harness racing industry are extremely passionate about racing, their horses and their connection to the sport and that was evident in the photos and stories that we received.
The 2019 calendar features images from across the country taken by: Evelyn Sabraw of Acme, Alta.; Steven Quon of Calgary, Alta.; Megan Shea of Charlottetown, P.E.I; Melanie Rey-Clark of St Claude, Man.; Jackie McManus of Komoka, Ont.; Jake MacDonald of London, Ont.; Frances Lund of Charlottetown, P.E.I.; Tammy Webb of Fredericton, N.B.; Pierre Rochette of La Malbaie, Que.; Orianna Scheck of Calgary, Alta.; Melissa Hutchinson of Abbotsford, B.C. and Kyle Burton of Truro, N.S.
