Phoos Girl Grabs London Preferred
The $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 feature pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Tuesday, Dec. 4 went to Phoos Girl, who wired her competition to win by two lengths in 1:57.1.
Owned and trained by Danielle Neil, the five-year-old Badlands Hanover mare secured control from post two while odds-on favourite Bourbon Seelster floated into the pocket and rail-starter Shooteronbye sat third. By the first quarter in :28.4 and the first half in :59.2, Phoos Girl faced minor pressure on lap two from Shooteronbye tipping first over towards three-quarters. However Phoos Girl maintained a length-and-a-quarter advantage past the third quarter in 1:28.
Shooteronbye faltered turning into the stretch, leaving a seam for Bourbon Seelster to tip out. Yet the favourite only gave pursuit as Phoos Girl hit the wire two lengths in front of the public choice while Shooteronbye finished third three lengths away.
Winning her 10th race from 31 starts this season and her 19th from 88 overall, Phoos Girl has earned $107,027. Marc St Louis steered the $6.10 winner.
