Jimmy Freight Takes Progress Elim

After being just nosed out in his Matron Stakes division last week, Adriano Sorella's Jimmy Freight ($6.00) redeemed himself on Wednesday (Nov. 21) at Dover Downs, mowing down Dorsoduro Hanover in 1:49.2 in the last yards of the lone $35,000 elimination of the Hap Hansen Progress Pace.

Scott Zeron made an uncontested lead with the son of Sportswriter as soon as the gate sprung, only then to yield to Thinkbig Dreambig (Yannick Gingras) at the conclusion of a :26.1 first quarter. Jimmy Freight enjoyed a pocket ride behind Thinkbig Dreambig through middle splits of :54.4 and 1:22.2, but was boxed up the far side when 3-5 favourite Dorsoduro Hanover (Matt Kakaley) advanced first-over out of third to duel down Thinkbig Dreambig into the far turn.

With three-sixteenths to go, Zeron wedged Jimmy Freight out in front of the flagging Shnitzledosomethin (David Miller) — who wavered on the final turn after chasing second-over cover. Turning for home, Jimmy Freight accelerated and reeled in Dorsoduro Hanover by a neck in 1:49.2. This Is The Plan (Tim Tetrick) improved position on the far turn to take third.

Done Well, Thinkbig Dreambig, Shnitzledosomethin, Im A Big Deal and Heavenly Sound finished fourth through eighth respectively and also will advance to next Thursday's (Nov. 29) $260,000 final.

Andrew Harris handles the United States training duties of Jimmy Freight, who is now an 18-time winner.

Comments

Jimmy Freight was hands-down, Canada's best 3 year old horse of any sex or gait this year. I look forward to watching him race again in 2019.
