Legal Power Impressive In Debut
The future seems bright for Legal Power, who debuted impressively for his new connections in the Thursday night finale at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The three-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere - Authorize was a $150,000 yearling purchase from the 2016 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale but only managed three wins from 21 starts over two seasons and $33,235 in earnings. Doug Dunbar of Woodstock, Ont. purchased Legal Power during the Harrisburg Mixed Sale for $52,000, and if his first start is any indication a positive return on investment is imminent.
Making his first start north of the 49th for trainer and co-owner Richard Moreau, Legal Power demolished his conditioned foes and equaled his lifetime mark with a 1:52.2 mile. Louis-Philippe Roy was between the shafts for the eye-opening victory, achieved despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions and a martingale that snapped before the half-mile point.
