UPDATE: Ladies First At Cal Expo Saturday
Pacing fillies and mares will be in the spotlight at Cal Expo this Friday evening (Nov. 16). Misspanderosajones will be heading the $4,800 conditioned feature and a solid field will do battle in the Annette Funicello Prep.
Misspanderosa will start from the outside slot in the headliner for the Tip That Bucket Stable. The eight-year-old mare is trained by Rocco Giambrocono. Dean Magee will be in the sulky.
The bay miss made her Cal Expo debut during last weekend’s opening-night card and had her work cut out for her in the Filly and Mare Open. She finished fourth behind Capitol Hill and the heavily-favoured Legio X Equestris in what was a 1:55.2 mile.
She should be very much at home in Friday’s line up. She is set to take on Awesum World, Directing Traffic, Perfect Pitch and Along Came Jane.
A contentious cast of eight distaffers will face starter Ken Fowler for the co-featured Funicello Prep (the final will be contested next week).
The Annette Funicello is named for the famous actress/singer who was married to horseman Glen Holt for 27 years until her death in 2013. She was a major fan and proponent of harness racing.
UPDATE: Officials with Cal Expo have announced that the track has been forced to cancel the programs of live racing that it had scheduled for this coming weekend (including this Saturday card). For complete information, click here.
