Sock It Away Blows Away Preferred
Odds-on favourite Sock It Away swept to the lead past the half and opened a seven-length margin to the wire when taking the $2,650 Preferred 1 Pace at Charlottetown Driving Park on Sunday, Nov. 11 while remaining undefeated in 17 starts this season.
The three-year-old gelding by Pang Shui sat third to a :28.4 opening quarter established by Rockin Indy before driver Marc Campbell tipped the Kevin MacLean trainee first over heading to a :59.1 half.
Sock It Away cleared command approaching the backstretch while Rockin Indy gave pursuit from the pocket. Ahead two-and-a-half lengths by three-quarters in 1:28.1, Sock It Away widened his advantage spinning towards the stretch as he advanced to a 1:57.1 victory. Rockin Indy held second from Winter Blast taking third.
Owned by Reginald Mac Pherson, Sock It Away earned his 24th victory from 29 starts overall, earning $112,784. Marc Campbell steered the $3.90 winner.
Alongside the feature, Mick Dundee capitalized from a pocket trip to post a 2:00.1 victory in the $2,350 Preferred 2 Pace. Owned, trained and driven by Donald Mac Neill, Mick Dundee stalked pacesetter and race-favourite Eagle Jolt as he posted fractions of :29.1, :59.1 and 1:29.3 on the lead. In the lane, the four-year-old gelding by Aahm Canadian Now surged to the lead while holding off runner-up I C True Grit by a length. Eagle Jolt faded to third.
Winning his sixth race from 24 starts this year and his 16th from 58 overall, Mick Dundee, earning $34,923 in his career, returned $8.90 to win.
