Preferred To Dunbar Hall; Harvest Series Continues
Dunbar Hall returned to Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday and turned in a strong performance in the $34,000 Preferred Trot.
The four-year-old trotter was making his first start since a break in the $500,000 Breeders Crown final on October 25 and shot off cover to track down leader Dancer Hall for a 1:54 victory.
Trained by Stephanie Jamieson, Dunbar Hall and driver Jody Jamieson were able to flush out cover from fifth and sat in a nice second-over spot turning for home. Dancer Hall left from post nine and made the lead after being parked around the first turn.
Dancer Hall reached three-quarters in 1:25 and had a few lengths of separation on his rivals coming into the lane. Dunbar Hall unleashed a strong final quarter to shoot off cover and storm by the leader for a 1-3/4-length score. Dancer Hall just held off Free Willy Hanover for second.
Dunbar Hall’s victory snapped a five-race losing streak. The Jamieson trainee finished second in his Crown elimination before making an early break in the rich final.
Owned by Carl Jamieson and George Harrison, Dunbar Hall now has seven wins and $200,930 earned in 22 starts this season. His career numbers improved to 12 wins and $314,184 earned with the Preferred score.
Dunbar Hall paid $16.90 to win.
Round two of the Harvest Series for Ontario sired three-year-old fillies also took place on Monday. Just a single seven-horse division was needed for the trotters, while 21 pacers were split into a pair of divisions.
Miss Adam T came through for her backers in the second leg, scoring a coast-to-coast victory in 1:59.1 as the public’s choice. The Ben Baillargeon trainee finished third in the first leg after going off as the favourite.
Leg one winner Shotgun Sally was scratched due to transportation, which brought the field down to six. Gradabra finished second by 2-1/2 lengths, while Power And Grace was third.
Trevor Henry steered Miss Adam T to her second win in 13 starts. The sophomore trotting filly, who was unraced at age two, has now earned $26,296 for owners/breeders Tom and Elizabeth Rankin.
Miss Adam T paid $4.10 to win.
D Gs Shadowsbell pulled off her second consecutive upset victory in the first of two divisions for pacing fillies. James MacDonald gave the Chantal Mitchell trainee a two-hole ride and shot through in the lane to win by a head over Grand Bay in a career-best 1:54.
Lyons Hedgeabet and Shadow World were in the mix for the exciting finish and crossed the line third and fourth, each beat half a length.
A daughter of Shadow Play, D Gs Shadowsbell went off at odds of 13-1 in Monday’s second leg after pulling off a 27-1 upset in last week’s first leg. She now has three wins in 18 starts this season.
Owned and bred by Daniel Surprenant, D Gs Shadowsbell now has $32,204 earned this season to bring her career numbers to six wins and $63,669. She paid $29.60 to win.
