Supersport Super In Flamboro Feature
Since returning to the care of trainer Craig Barss at the beginning of the month, Supersport ($4.10) has been simply dynamite. In Wednesday night's (Oct. 31) $7,800 pacing feature at Flamboro Downs, he captured his second win in four starts to go along with a pair of runner-up finishes in that same span.
Brett MacDonald protected the pocket with the three-year-old Sportswriter gelding on the first turn, yielding to Free Proof (Jonathan Drury) before brushing to clear the lead just beyond a :27.3 first quarter. Supersport remained unchallenged from that point on, rating middle splits of :57.3 and 1:27 before edging away off the home turn to defeat Free Proof by 2-3/4 lengths in 1:56.2, a new lifetime mark. Stonebridge Grand (J Harris) landed close from the second row and stalked evenly throughout to take third.
Barss co-owns and co-bred Supersport, now a three-time winner, with Nurko Sokolovic.
