Brocks Fortune First In London
Public choice Brocks Fortune secured the lead from post one and took second-tier starter and pocket-sitter Champagne Phil wire to wire to win the $8,500 Preferred 3 Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District by a half length in 1:55.4 on Monday, Oct. 29.
Brocks Fortune protected pylon position heading into the first turn while Champagne Phil pushed through the inside to force Hidden Potential, from post two, into third heading to a :27.3 first quarter.
With no challenge to a :57.3 half, Brocks Fortune continued on the point as Hidden Potential tipped uncovered into the backstretch approaching a 1:26.4 third-quarter. Hidden Potential then gave way into the stretch as Champagne Phil edged out of the pocket and pursued the leader to the wire, finishing short of victory in second. Hidden Potential finished three lengths back in third.
An eight-year-old gelding by Stonebridge regal out of the Apaches Fame mare Fannies Fortune, Brocks Fortune competes for owner-trainer Taylor Fritz and co-owner Jared Bako. He won his fifth race in 24 starts this season and his 24th in 131 overall, earning $358,000, and paid $4.30 to win.
