Sunset On Summerside Meet
The 2018 Red Shores Summerside racing season came to a close on a rescheduled program Monday, Oct. 29 with Mando Fun winning the featured event.
Dale Spence engineered the winning drive in the $2,200 Preferred class as he sat the pocket behind pacesetter Fast N Victorious through splits of :29.4, 1:00 and 1:28.2 before prevailing in the stretch drive in 1:57.3. Fast N Victorious was second while Machinthesand rounded out the triactor.
Mando Fun is co-owned and trained by Paul Biggar of Tyne Valley for co-owner Donald Callbeck of Kensington, P.E.I.
David Dowling put the finishing touches on top driver at Red Shores Summerside while also sealing the deal for trainer Earl Watts to earn top honours. Dowling won three races on the season closer including a 21-1 upset with Inspector Murdoch in 2:00.4 for trainer Blaine McKenna of Summerside and a 1:59.2 on-the-front score in a $1,900 pace with Rockin Indy for Troy Murray of Clyde River, P.E.I.
The Warren Grove reinsman also hit the winner’s circle with Windemereinalright in a neck decision in 2:01.3 for trainer Watts of Hampshire. The win gave Watts a two-win advantage in the training standings over Austin Sorrie for the 2018 season.
Positive Art won the final dash of the season in Prince County with an on-the-front victory in 1:59.1 for driver Merner and trainer Bing Easter of O’Leary, P.E.I.
Live racing continues on P.E.I. with Red Shores Charlottetown hosting afternoon programs this coming Saturday and Sunday with 12:30 p.m. first-race post times.
