Details For 2018 Horsepeople’s Reunion

The second annual horsepeople’s reunion is scheduled for Thursday, November 1 at the Mohawk Inn and Conference Centre in Campbellville, Ontario.

There will be stories galore of present and bygone days about horses, races, horsepeople, rare experiences, and race tracks, many no longer in existence.

There will be plenty of racing history in the room. The venerable triumvirate of Hall of Famers, Keith Waples, John ‘Doc’ Findley and Roly Armitage, all living on the sunny side of 90 years, are expected to again hold court at the popular Ontario Harness Horse Association (OHHA) – sponsored event that last year attracted over 300 participants from all segments of the Canadian harness racing world.

A silent auction of racing memorabilia will be auctioned for the benefit of Allan ’Al’ Aikin who is experiencing health problems. Al operated the track kitchens for many years at Barrie Raceway and Georgian Downs. Pat Crowe has donated a framed portrait of Cam Fella, and signed photos of hockey greats Darryl Sittler and Marcel Dionne are among other items up for grabs. Horsepeople are encouraged to bring donations of racing memorabilia for the silent auction.

Video presentations of harness racing action, including Trotting on the Rideau Canal -- remembered as iconic days in the long and storied history of the trotting sport in Canada, the Little Brown Jug, the Meadowlands Pace will be shown on a big screen.

Roly Armitage, the newly-minted bard of the Ottawa Valley who has authored three books in the past five years, will sign copies of his hot-off-the-press, Straight from the Horse’s Mouth, with a portion of the sales going to the Al Aikin fund.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and there is a cash bar.
