Bestofthebunch In Leamington Preferred
Bestofthebunch bested the bunch in the $6,000 Preferred Pace at Leamington Raceway on Sunday, Oct. 21 with a wire-to-wire victory by four and a half lengths in 1:57.3.
Leaving from post one, Bestofthebunch had no problem taking the lead and took the field by the first quarter in :28. Reiki, the 7-5 favourite and positioned third, edged first over heading to the half and matched strides with pocket-sitter Njs Trick Pistol through a :57.3 half and past three-quarters in 1:27. Bestofthebunch continued unchallenged on the lead into the stretch where driver Nick Steward opened his lead by three lengths to the wire. Irvine James rallied off a rail trip for second while Reiki finished another three lengths back in third.
Trained by Tim Meyers, Bestofthebunch won his fourth race from 19 starts this season and his 31st from 156 overall, eclipsing $200,000 in career earnings. The seven-year-old gelding by Artistic Fella competes for owner Boris Laus and paid $15.10 to win.
Driver Marc St. Louis Jr. collected five wins on the ten race program. His wins came with Robintheatm ($6.60), taking a $3,600 conditioned pace going wire to wire in 1:59.1, Smile In Style ($5.50), taking a $4,000 conditioned pace going wire to wire in 2:01, Howdy Partner ($9.60), parking the mile first over and powering to a 1:58.4 victory by four lengths in a $3,500 claiming pace, Lillian Road ($5.30), parking the mile first over and storming to a four-length win in 2:01.3 in a $3,500 claiming pace, and Michelles Hattrick ($11.40), winning by five and a half lengths in a $3,500 claiming pace going wire to wire in 2:01.2.
