Western Fair Hosts Veterans' Classic
The Raceway at the Western Fair District honoured our military with the second annual Veterans’ Classic on Friday night (October 19).
Opening ceremonies began on the track with a Colour Guard and the 1st Hussars Cavalry Troop performing a Skills at Arms demonstration.
The Veterans’ Classic also showcased military displays and vehicles throughout the East Annex, Grandstand and The Raceway lobby, as well as veteran tributes between each race of the evening.
The evening included a barbecue dinner on the patio adjacent to the racetrack and named races throughout.
The event supported the Poppy Fund, Parkwood Veterans and the 1st Hussars Cavalry Troop through fundraising efforts.
On track, King Of Magic ($6.90) led wire-to-wire to win the featured $8,400 Veterans Classic Trot in 2:01.4 with Lorne House driving for trainer John Pentland and owners James, Roxanne and Una Casha.
Jennifer Pinkerton's Scene A Magician ($4.30) and driver Greg Dustin took the weekly $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot in 1:59 flat.
