Campbell, Lancaster Sweep Rogers Stakes
Driver Brandon Campbell and trainer Chris Lancaster swept the $22,500 Jim Rogers Memorial Stakes on Friday night (October 19) at Northlands Park with two-year-old pacing fillies Rockin Mystery and Lady Neigh Neigh.
Owned by Rod Therres and Blair Miller of Langley, B.C., Rockin Mystery scored a 1:57.2 maiden-breaking victory as she prevailed off a pocket trip in the first of two stakes divisions featured mid-card.
The forwardly-placed Mystery Chase filly overhauled Stash The Cookies (Mike Hennessy) in the stretch after tracking her through fractions of :29.2, :59.3 and 1:28. The two-length win was her first in six career starts.
Cayley Skye (Thomas Miller) was the best of the rest, finishing almost 10 lengths in arrears.
Sent postward as the 3-1 third choice in her Northlands debut, Rockin Mystery paid $8.30 to win.
Favourite Lady Neigh Neigh gave Campbell and Lancaster the stakes double as she dominated the second division.
Lady Neigh Neigh looped the quick-leaving Western Summit (Philip Giesbrecht) after the :28 opening panel and set middle splits of :57.4 and 1:27 en route to a five-length victory in 1:56.2. Lollipop Yacht (Kelly Hoerdt) held third ahead of a first-up Go Away N Play (Mike Hennessy).
The daughter of Bettors Delight earned her third win from seven career starts and was just one-fifth of a second off her lifetime mark taken in this summer's Emerald Filly Stakes at Century Downs.
Lancaster shares ownership of Lady Neigh Neigh with Christopher Lambie of Airdrie, Alta.
Lady Neigh Neigh returned $4.10 to win.
The stakes victories were part of a training triple on the 10-race card for Lancaster, who finished off the night watching Gray Zee ($4.50) earn his third in a row in rein to Tyler Redwood.
