Barockey Comes Up Big Again
When it comes to pacing mares that race week in and week out at Woodbine Mohawk Park, you’d have a hard time finding one tougher than Barockey.
The former claimer turned a second-over trip into the 49th victory of her career in the $22,000 featured event of the Friday card at the Campbellville, Ont. oval.
Louis Philippe Roy guided the mare into an early five-hole while Artistic Madison and P L Hurricane battled to the opening quarter in :26.2. P L Hurricane worked her way to the top and she powered the field to the mid-way point in :55. Barockey swung to the outside at that point and flushed out race favourite Action Majesty.
P L Hurricane was still the leader at the three-quarter pole in 1:24.1, but Action Majesty was applying heavy duty pressure from first-over. Both mares wound up fading, and it left the door wide-open for Barockey to kick off cover and sprint home in :26.4 for the 1:51.3 decision. Windsongmagnifique was just a half-length in arrears, with the show dough going to Sudden Passing.
Richard Moreau trains the nine-year-old daughter of Mach Three-Mystical Maiden for partners Sylvain Descheneaux and GAAR Racing Stables. After a five-win campaign in 2017, the career winner of $561,371 has answered with a 10-for-33 record this season.
