Muzzle The Yakker Tops Session Three
A final bid of $200,000 for the trotting filly Muzzle The Yakker proved to be the biggest bid of Thursday evening’s third session of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale.
Reijo Liljendahl signed the sales slip on Hip 323 Muzzle The Yakker, a daughter of Explosive Matter out of the Angus Hall mare Baileys Breeze – a half-sister to Casual Breeze (1:53.1 - $1,347,330).
Among the Canadian buyers was Mel Hartman, who shelled out $130,000 to nab Hip 335 Creature Of Habit. The daughter of Donato Hanover-Habits Best is a half-sister to Habitat (1:53 - $1,294,870).
Ecurie CSL of Quebec also spent $130,000 to take home Hip 376 Barney Google. The son of Artspeak is the first foal out of Oogle Google, a half-sister to Nikki Beach (1:50 - $473,951).
Session 3 of the sale saw the hammer of the auctioneer fall on 162 yearlings, with those youngsters accounting for total sales of $6,756,000 for an average price of $41,704.
Ontario sires were well represented in the ring with sons and daughters of Kadabra (10 in total) being the most popular of the Ontario-sired offerings. Muscle Mass (6), Bettors Delight (5), Mach Three (3), Sportswriter (3) and Shadow Play (3) were among the Ontario sires with three or more yearlings offered in the third session.
The sale, held as usual at the Fasig-Tipton Pavilion in Lexington, Ky., continues though Saturday (Oct. 6), with the next session slated for Friday (Oct. 5) at 7 p.m.
