‘Finesse’ To Debut For New Trainer
Woodmere Finesse will take on four foes for her new trainer in the top aged pace of the night this Thursday (Oct. 3) at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.
First-race post time for the 11-dash card will be at 6:30 p.m.
Woodmere Finesse has drawn Post 4 for the $1,800 dash (Race 7) for the duo of driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Jeff Lilley. The four-year-old daughter of Articulator will look to add to the eight wins she has compiled thus far in her 2018 campaign. Edward Maher of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia owns Woodmere Finesse, who has recorded a 1:56 win over Nova Scotia’s Truro Raceway this season. Woodmere Finesse turned heads as a two-year-old when she recorded a win in 1:57.4 without hopples, a record for free-legged rookies on Canada’s east coast.
West River Ambyr will look to have some say in the Thursday evening outcome, as the five-year-old daughter of Brandons Cowboy will also be dropping out of the Open Mares ranks into Post 2 for driver Steven Shepherd and trainer Harold Shepherd. The 18-time winner has a solid summary of 16 top-three finishes in 2018 after 23 starts.
Other entries include Goodmorning Ky (to be driven by Ken Murphy), Julep Hanover (Wade Myers) and Drivingthedragon N (Jason Hughes).
The CPKN Stanhope Workshop 2018 Pace has been slotted as Race 6 on the program and it will feature a full field of eight pacing mares. Dusty Lane Zendaya has received the top billing as the morning line choice, but will have to overcome Post 8 for driver Ron Gass, trainer Stephen Gass and owners Alexis Gass and the Estate Of Shelley Gass of Cornwall, P.E.I. Other top entries include CL La Rousse (David Dowling) and Can Art (Adam Merner).
The program will also feature a pair of three-year-old overnight classes for non-winners of $3,000 lifetime that will each carry a special purse of $2,500. The dashes have been carded as Races 3 and 5.
The Atlantic Breeders Crown will be featured this weekend. The kick-off will be the Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale, which will take place at the Crapaud Exhibition Grounds on Friday (Oct. 5) and will get underway at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday afternoon will feature the best two and three-year-old stakes stars in the region. Post times for both cards will be 12:30 p.m. For more information, head to redshores.ca
