'Global' Takes Winning Tour Of Truro Oval
Global Seelster circled up from last to first down the stretch to earn his first Truro Raceway triumph in the top class on Friday night (September 28).
Weather Hanover set the early pace in the $1,675 Winners Over feature after clearing Rusty Riley as they moved into the backstretch for the first time. He led the field of five through fractions of :28.2 and :58.1 before Only One Star advanced first-over from third and gained a short lead past the 1:28.1 third quarter mark.
As Only One Star took over command moving into the stretch, the rest of the field began to converge from both sides, with the George Rennison-trained Global Seelster widest of all from the back of the pack and powering to victory in 1:58.2 over the 'good' track. Driven by Dale Spence, the six-year-old Artistic Fella gelding prevailed by three-quarters of a length over Only One Star, with Rusty Riley nabbing third-place honours ahead of the winner's stablemate, Distinctiv Rusty. Weather Hanover finished three and a quarter lengths behind.
Global Seelster has earned all three of his 2018 wins since relocating from Ontario to the East Coast and joining Rennison's stable in July. His two previous wins were over Charlottetown Driving Park, where he took a mark of 1:56.3. Global Seelster is owned by Andrea Rennison and Ryder Matthews Rennison.
The victory was his 11th from 61 starts lifetime and bumped his bankroll over the $50,000 mark.
Sent postward as the 3-1 second choice, he paid $8.40 to win.
In other action, 14-year-old pacer Montreal Phil ran his current win streak to five, seasonal win total up to 13 and lifetime count to 82 after leading his rivals across the wire in 1:59.2. Trained and driven by Darren Crowe for owners Dawn Ellis Abbott and Jeff Ellis, the Blissfull Hall gelding held off Adventure Hall by half a length.
