Track On 2 Weathers The Weather
The Track on 2 defied expectations with its Tuesday, September 25 card. The Lacombe, Alberta mile was able to reschedule its Sunday, September 23 program of nine live races, which had originally been cancelled due to bad weather affecting track conditions.
Canada’s newest pari-mutuel racetrack has been battling back from unseasonable early snow, which also forced the cancellation of a September 16 card and qualifying session. No fewer than 16 program changes were made to the Tuesday program, several due to drivers Kelly Hoerdt and Jamie Gray being away to represent Western Canada in the National Driving Championship at Grand River Raceway.
The top class of the day was race 3, a Classified (1) pace for a $5,100 purse. Brandon Campbell guided Ima Dude to a strong front-end victory in 2:01 flat, over a track rated “good”. Outlaw Turn N Burn (J.F. Gagne) closed for second, over 4 lengths back of the winner. It was the first of Campbell’s three driving wins Tuesday, the others behind Beaus Cowboy (2:01.4 in race 7) and Tim Hurtins (2:02.1 in race 9, pictured below).
Action resumes at The Track on 2 Sunday, September 30. Post time for the first race is 1:10 p.m.; doors open at 11:30 a.m.
Local racing fans, as well as those following The Track on 2 online, are invited to submit name suggestions for the new simulcast lounge on site.
