The Ice Dutchess Delivers In Peaceful Way
There have been a few anxious moments this season for rookie, trotting filly The Ice Dutchess, but she was on her best behaviour in Saturday’s rich final of the Peaceful Way for the team of driver Yannick Gingras and trainer Jimmy Takter.
The Ice Dutchess got away third before brushing to the lead in the backstretch – and once she got to the top it was game over for everyone else. She led the group through facile, middle fractions of :57 and 1:26 before firing home in :28.2 to win by 2-3/4 lengths over Evident Beauty in 1:54.2. Taking home the show dough was Angies Luckeylady.
“I said, ‘she’s the nicest filly in the sale, if I get her for $320,000, not a dollar more, I’ll go for it’ and that was my last bid,” said owner John Floren. “You look for these kind of horses your whole career. I’ve been in this sport for 30 years and you get one now and then. I always was patient and always was hopeful and now we have one and we’re going to enjoy every step of the way.”
Floren's Coyote Wynd Farms of Vancouver, BC owns the two-year-old daughter of Muscle Hill-The Ice Queen. She owns a 4-1-0 record from seven assignments, and along the way she’s managed to stash away earnings of $397,290.
