Red Shores To Host 84th PEI Colt Stakes
Trotters will open up the 84th edition of the PEI Colt Stakes with three races on Thursday (Sept. 13) at Red Shores Charlottetown while pacing colts and fillies will compete on Saturday (Sept. 15) with a big program of 14 races expected.
The PEI Colt Stakes is the second leg of the Island Breeders series, and the top money earners will be eligible for the Island Breeders Championships scheduled for October 27.
The six championship races in October will be named in memory of individuals who have been part of the 84-year-old history of the PEI Colt Stakes, the longest running stakes program in Canada. Honourees are chosen from those who were breeder/owners of several past stakes winners, or were active in the organization as directors or volunteers. This year the following contributors will be honoured:

Lee Taylor - Past President, Owner/Breeder
Joe Smallwood - Owner/Breeder
Wilma MacLure - Volunteer
Ron Kennedy - Past President, Owner
Charles Willis - Director, Owner
A memorial cooler will be presented by family and friends and a biographical display of the honourees will be on display in the grandstand compiled by local historian Jerry McCabe.
