Well Said To Skip The 'Jug?'

According to Toni Rose, an assistant trainer in the Steve Elliott stable, Well Said may not be heading to the Little Brown Jug later this month

.

“We’re not sure whether we want to ask him to go heats,” Rose was quoted as telling the Woodbine Entertainment Group publicity department. “It will depend on how well he comes out of the Simcoe. After this race we’ll decide.”

Well Said's $136,153 Simcoe division, carded as Race 10 on Mohawk's star-studded Saturday program, will see the millionaire three-year-old start from Post 2 for trainer Elliott and driver Ron Pierce. The Western Hanover colt has been established as the heavy 2-5 morning line favourite.

The colt last raced pari-mutuelly on August 16 when he won the $500,000 Battle of the Brandywine at Pennsylvania's Chester Racetrack. Well Said shipped up to Mohawk and put in a sharp 1:51.4 qualifying win September 4 over the Campbellville, Ont. course.

“He’s not that great of a shipper, so we gave him an extra week, and the qualifier, to recover and settle in. He has trained really well all week. It’s the best he’s been in a while, I think, so with a good post position (two) and a short field, he has every reason to do well on Saturday.”

It's not all about the money, maybe he's done enough this year.Well done to the owners for not being greedy, and trying to look after their horse, if they decide not to go for the Jug

Isn't this news just great. The best horse didn't compete last year (Somebeach) and doesn't look like the best is going this year(Well Said). They must up the purse to get these great sportsmen owners to the Jug..
