Sock It Away Continues Perfect Campaign
Three-year-old male pacer Sock It Away continued his divisional dominance in the Atlantic Sires Stakes on Sunday afternoon (September 2) at Inverness Raceway and is now 11-for-11 this season racing for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reginald MacPherson.
With Marc Campbell aboard for the $10,320 fourth round Sires Stakes division, Sock It Away advanced from fifth to take the lead past the :58.4 half-mile mark en route to a three-length victory in 1:57.1. Early leader Woodmere Ideal Art followed in second-place and Easy Flyer finished third. The Pang Shui-Someone Like You gelding now boasts 18 career wins, two seconds and $86,416 in earnings from 23 starts.
Last year's Atlantic Breeders Crown champion Half Cut earned the first Sires Stakes victory of his sophomore season taking the other top tier division featured on the day. The Stonebridge Terror-Beckys Filly gelding prevailed in 1:57.4 by a quarter-length over pacesetter Weekend Atnannies, with String Busters rounding out the top three finish order. Mark Bradley worked out the winning trip for trainer Tom Weatherbie and owners Kyle Gardiner, Joseph Gardiner, Michael Currie and Jerry MacKinnon.
The $4,000 Dr. Jim MacLean Remembrance Pace closed out the 10-race card with Imacaroltoo winning in wire-to-wire fashion and equalling her career mark of 1:57.4. Ryan Campbell drove the five-year-old Brandons Cowboy-Keltic Sarah mare to her third straight win while Modern Best and Makes Me Stupid finished more than four lengths behind. Walter Walker trains and co-owns the winner with Raymond MacKinnon.
