Potential Expansion Back In The News
Word out of London, Ont. late last week has indicated that city councillors are planning on revisiting topics relating to a potential expansion at the Western Fair District.
According to an article by the CBC, London politicians have a committee meeting planned for September 24, and the topic of rezoning amendments for the Western Fair District is on the docket.
The CBC piece states that the rezoning amendment would allow a portion of the co-owned grounds to be able to be used for restaurants, hotels, retail shops and breweries.
Gateway Casinos Director of Public Affairs Rob Mitchell has clarified to the CBC that the proposed amendment does not mean that Gateway is no longer looking at other prospective properties to house a gaming expansion in London.
"This is a good thing in the sense that this is going to permit expanded gaming on the fairground site,” Mitchell was quoted as saying. “This zoning amendment should not be confused as confirmation that we going to stay at the fairground. We are still looking at other options."
The application is scheduled to be addressed during a planning and environment committee meeting on Sept. 24., which is open to the public.
