'Doubleshot' Rebounds At Inverness
After early interference marred his previous start, Doubleshotascotch ($6.20) fought off two challengers through the middle half en route to a 1:59.4 score in the featured $1,150 winners-over pace on Wednesday (Aug. 29) at Inverness Raceway.
The 12-year-old veteran, who campaigns for local owner-trainer John MacDonald, protected pole position to assume the pacesetting duties in the field of five and strolled through a :32.1 first quarter in rein to Brett LeBlanc. On approach to the half in 1:01.1, Doubleshotascotch was briefly headed by Modern Best (Redmond Doucet), but held his ground early in the second circuit.
After dismissing his first challenge, 45-time winner Doubleshotascotch parried a subsequent bid from Twisted Frisco (Shawn MacDonald) through a :29.3 third split before evading pocket rival Surrealist (Alex MacQuarrie) to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:59.4.
