Erwin Andrew Series Leg Wednesday
Some of the fastest mares in Maritime harness racing will be part in the mid-week card at Fredericton Raceway Wednesday, September 9 during FREX 2009
.
Todd Trites will be steering Abby Best in the final preliminary leg of the Erwin Andrew Memorial Series for aged mares. The race is slated as the seventh dash on the eight-race Wednesday evening program. First-race post time is 7:00 p.m.
Abby Best will leave from Post 5 in the five-horse field, hoping to earn a significant portion of the $4,043 purse. The eight-year-old daughter of Cambest has set track records at Connell Park and Exhibition Park Raceway this season, in addition to an impressive runner-up performance against the boys in the Robert McCain Memorial in Woodstock.
A good effort tomorrow night may provide her with a primer for the Chippin Memorial on Saturday in Fredericton against top competition such as Walter Dale winner All Star Dragon. Owned by Angus MacLean of Port Hood, NS, Abby Best has cruised against females for much of this season, and a successful race against open company Saturday is possible. Abby Best may boost her seasonal earnings over the next few weeks, with the final of the Erwin Andrew Series slated for Thursday, October 1 at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Based on her recent performances, Abby Best may be in position to threaten Fredericton’s track record for aged pacing mares, set in 2007 by Howmacs Dragon in 1:56.2.
