Woodside Charm Sharp In NYSS

Woodside Charm remained unbeaten with a win in the second of two $56,500 divisions of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for freshman trotting fillies on Thursday, Aug. 23 at Vernon Downs.

Quincy Blue Chip charged for the early lead before Woodside Charm went first over and took control as they headed for the back stretch. Owned and trained by driver Verlin Yoder, Woodside Charm continued on the front to a half in :57.3 and led by two lengths after they went to three-quarters in 1:26.3. She hit another gear as they entered the stretch and won going away in a lifetime-best time of 1:54.3. Stella Jane came up to finish second and Quincy Blue Chip held on for third.

Woodside Charm is a two-year-old filly by Chapter Seven-Fireworks Hanover. The $2.60 winner has won all three of her starts with ease.

In the first division of the NYSS, Hanna Dreamgirl (Jim Morrill Jr) went to the front hitting the first quarter in :27.4. Sensibility followed in the pocket with Safe Word in third. Hanna Dreamgirl, who is owned by Ken Jacobs and trained by Linda Toscano, continued to control the race hitting the half in :56.0 and three-quarters in 1:29.2. Sensibility popped the pocket and made her move but had to settle for second best as Hanna Dreamgirl cruised to the win in 1:57.1. Hot Chapter was third.

Hanna Dreamgirl is a two-year-old filly by Chapter Seven-Shipps Empress. She now has two wins, a second and five thirds in eight career starts.

Linda Toscano had a training double on the night. Her other win came with Global Pageant ($5.00), who was driven by Scott Zeron.

Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Friday, Aug. 24 with an 11-race card starting at 6:10 p.m.
