Traffic Jam Rushes To Georgian Win
Traffic Jam ($9.20) was able to escape potential gridlock up the far side when Cut And Paste broke in the outer tier, ultimately sprinting off to a 1:55 win in the $11,500 Preferred 2 Handicap for pacing mares on a rainy Tuesday night (Aug. 21) at Georgian Downs.
The four-year-old Artiscape mare was unhurried from post 2 and content to stalk from fourth in the early stages while HP Sissy (Scott Young) pushed to the fore from post 6 to control early fractions of :27.2 and :57. Up the far side, a ground-saving Traffic Jam found herself in danger of being locked in by the first-over Cut And Paste (J.R. Plante) and Fading Shadow (Scott Coulter), but a breaking Cut And Paste enabled Colin Kelly to angle Traffic Jam off the pegs with just over a quarter mile remaining.
While HP Sissy was able to put away pocket foe Sing Like An Angel (Travis Cullen) en route to the final turn, Traffic Jam's progress was strong and steady. The Martin Lachance trainee powered clear in mid-stretch and drew off to beat HP Sissy by 1-1/2 lengths. Fading Shadow remained even after losing cover and narrowly took third.
It was the sixth career win for Traffic Jam, owned by the Lachance Racing Stable and Dragon Racing Inc.
Woodbine invader Gottalovemyshadow ($4.30) was a pillar-to-post winner in the $9,500 Preferred 3 for distaffers, digging in late under trainer-driver Jack Moiseyev to hold off the first-over charge from Justabit Mean (Brett MacDonald) by half a length in 1:54.4. Joanne Colville, Nancy MacNevin and Emma Christoforou share ownership of the four-year-old Shadow Play mare.
