Ohio's Filly Trotters Head To Northfield
Fourteen three-year-old trotting fillies will line up behind the Northfield Park starting gate in a pair of $50,000 Ohio Sires Stakes contests on Monday night, Aug. 20. The two OHSS events are carded as races three and four, with a first race post time of 6 pm, ET.
The leading point earner in this series, Non Smoker, with 153 points, has opted to sit out this final leg after having captured the first three OHSS contests in 1:54, 1:56.2 and 1:55.1 respectively.
Impinktoo, the second highest point earner with 78, has finished second in the first three legs and looks like the one to beat in the second OHSS division (race four). This Manofmanymissions filly is conditioned by Ron Burke for Billy Walters, Joe McLead and Rtk Racing and has amassed $37,500 in OHSS monies thus far. Lifetime, she’s earned $231,765, with $64,725 in her seasonal coffers. She’ll leave from post five with Kayne Kauffman in the sulky.
Looking For Zelda and California Love are tied for third in this division, with each having a 73-point total after the first three legs, and each having earned $35,000 in OHSS monies. Looking For Zelda won leg three in a spiffy 1:54.1 at Scioto Downs, while California Love won leg two in 1:56.2 at Northfield Park.
Looking For Zelda is a homebred daughter by Break The Bank K owned by Bob Key and trained by Norm Parker, with $307,694 in her career bankroll. California Love is a Chris Beaver-trained, Stormin Normand lass bred by co-owner Marion Beachy and owned in partnership with Beaver, Steve Zeehandelar and Moger-Delia Racing. She has $134,827 earned this far in her career. Looking For Zelda starts from post six with Tony Hall in the bike, while California Love get the services of Ronnie Wrenn, Jr., from post two in the first OHSS test (race three).
Beaver will also harness Red Storm in this same division for breeder/owner Sandra Burnett. This chestnut daughter by Stormin Normand has $33,000 earned in OHSS competition and a mark of 1:55.4 taken in her first leg triumph. Red Storm has drawn the seven-hole for driver Aaron Merriman.
Spunky Bottom Girl, who won leg two in 1:55.4, has OHSS earnings of $25,000 for breeder/owner Ed Teefey. This My MVP lass has earned $68,683 lifetime for her Mount Sterling, IL owner and will leave from post four in the second OHSS division for driver Tyler Smith.
