Jeremys Successor Wins Yonkers Open

Jeremys Successor, odds-on choice among the populace, took it to the house Saturday night, winning Yonkers Raceway's $50,000 Open Pace

With Jason Bartlett driving for trainer Dean Eckley, "Jeremy" was in play early from post position No. 3. He worked his way around pole-sitting Pandoras Sox (Billy Dobson) before a :27 second opening quarter-mile. Jeremys Successor then rated a soft :29.1 second quarter before Southwind Tabor (Greg Grismore) moved from fourth.

That one prompted the pace toward a 1:24.3 three-quarters, with Jeremys Successor taking a length-and-a-quarter lead into the lane. The leader turning into a drifting-but-safe winner, beating Pandoras Sox by a length in 1:53.

Southwind Tabor was third, with Arduous (Jim Pantaleano) and King Cat Anvil N (Jordan Stratton) elbowing their way for the remainder.

For Jeremys Successor, a five-year-old Mach Three gelding owned by Andrea Ann Hill, he returned $3.60 for eighth win in 18 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $9.10, with the triple (three wagering favourites in order) returning $31.40.

New York Sire Stakes action continues next week at the Raceway. Monday night features the $213,466 Eastchester Trot (three-year-old colts/geldings), Tuesday offers the $218,123 Bedford Pace (three-year-old fillies) and Thursday finds the $179,068 Milt Taylor Trot (two-year-old colts/geldings). There are also NYSS events scheduled for next Friday and Saturday nights.
