Demers Trainees Shine At Rideau
Neon Lights provided trainer Gerard Demers with one his three Sunday night highlights at Rideau Carleton Raceway, winning the co-featured $8,100 Preferred Handicap Trot.
With Jonathan Lachance in the driver's seat, Neon Lights made the lead ahead of Ghirardelli Lindy past the :28.1 first quarter mark and clocked middle splits of :58.4 and 1:28.2 on the way to the one and a half-length victory in 1:58 flat. Y S Suzanne closed off cover to place, just ahead of Ghirardelli Lindy.
Neon Lights, who put together a four-win streak in the Preferred class earlier this summer, was the 3-5 favourite and paid $3.40 to win. The four-year-old Chapter Seven gelding is owned by Ferme Tag Inc.
Demers also won the Sunday night opener with sophomore trotting colt Smart Pick ($9.80) and sent out Craven The Beach ($5.50) to a 1:56.4 third leg victory in the Hard Rocking Gents Claiming Series for $8,500 claiming pacers. La Ferme Tag also shares ownership of both winners, who were also driven by Lachance.
Bet I Can Fly ($4.10) drew off to a 1:54.1 four-length victory in another third leg division of the series for trainer/driver Guy Gagnon.
The co-featured Preferred Handicap for pacers was won by Stonebridge Beach ($12.30), who moved to the front for trainer/driver Stephane Pouliot after an early three-way battle on top was settled and cruised home two and a half lengths ahead of favourite Cobalt Man and Tymal Peacekeeper in a 1:53.4 mile.
