Bearcats Clash Sunday At Summerside
The top aged pacers on the Eastern Seaboard of Canada will converge on Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 5) for Invitational pacing action.
The Prince County oval will play host to 13 dashes Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. start time, culminating with a $4,000 Invitational pace in the finale. A field of eight talented pacers will head to gate in the invite, with Governor’s Plate champion Czar Seelster and driver Kenny Arsenault drawing the coveted post one. The nine-year-old son of Stonebridge Regal, trained by Todd Weatherbee for owner Tammy Johnston of Vernon Bridge, was a 1:53.2 winner over this track last month but was defeated in his last two outings by Rose Run Quest.
That foe leaves from post two in this Sunday afternoon field. Gilles Barrieau gets the call on Rose Run Quest for trainer Bo Ford after winning the $7,500 Exhibition Cup Invitational at Truro Raceway on July 21. Regular pilot Marc Campbell then returned to the lines of Rose Run Quest for a 1:54.4 victory last Saturday in Charlottetown but Campbell will be off-Island for ATSS stakes commitments.
Mr Irresistible has post three with Corey MacPherson at the lines for trainer Jennifer Doyle. The son of Mister Big will look to add to the over $12,000 bankroll he has accumulated this season.
Adkins Hanover gets post four this week with Ambyr Campbell at the controls for trainer Trevor Hicken with his last race ending with a fourth-place finish in Rose Run Quest’s 1:54.4 mile.
Euchred will be looking for revenge on his top-end foes from post five on Sunday afternoon after being parked out for duration of the mile in the Exhibition Cup and finishing a well-beaten seventh. The Shadow Play pacer has been a dominant force on the East Coast scene all season and will get trainer Terry Gallant at the lines this week.
Keep Coming leaves from post six for driver Dale Spence and trainer Brian Andrew while Do Over Hanover has post seven with Jason Hughes in the seat for trainer Chris MacKay.
In Spades has shown his best racing comes from the front end but is burdened with post eight in his Sunday contest. Austin Sorrie trains and drives the talented pacer, who also has not raced since the Exhibition Cup on July 2 after finishing second in that event.
