Frosh Fillies Trot Into Tioga
Three divisions of the New York Sire Stakes for two-year-old trotting fillies take centre stage at Tioga Downs on Friday (August 3).
Unbeaten Winndevie (Jim Meittinis) is the 8-5 morning-line favorite in the $35,866 first division. Owned by Purple Haze Stables and trained by Trond Smedshammer, the Credit Winner-Vida De Vie filly won New York Sire Stakes events at Monticello, Yonkers and Batavia Downs.
Amal Hall, the 2-1 second choice, won Sire Stakes races at Monticello and Buffalo before narrowly missing Winndevie at Batavia in her latest start. Marcus Miller drives the daughter of Credit Winner and Arabella Hall for trainer Julie Miller and owners GTY Stables, Dumain Haven Farm and Andy Miller Stables Inc.
In the $36,566 second division, the morning-line favourite is Quincy Blue Chip (Jim Morrill Jr.) at 2-1. The Chapter Seven-Sirenuse filly has two wins and a second in three starts. Jim Morrill Jr. will drive for trainer Gareth Downs and owner Blue Chip Bloodstock Inc.
The second choice at 3-1 is Liquorstoreblues. Owned by Paul and trainer Shawn Warner, she has one win, two seconds, and two thirds in five lifetime starts. Kim Crawford will drive the Conway Hall-Blueridge Yankee filly.
In the $36,566 third division, the 9-5 morning-line favourite is Woodside Charm. The daughter of Chapter Seven and Fireworks Hanover romped in her lone career start at Hoosier Park. Owner-trainer Verlin Yoder will also handle the driving duties.
Conway Kellyanne and trainer-driver Charlie Norris are the 2-1 second morning line choice. The Conway Hall-Pacific Centerfold filly won Sire Stakes events at Yonkers and Batavia Downs thus far this season for owners Carrie Norris, Acadia Farms Inc. and G&B Racing.
The 12-race card at Tioga Downs on Friday starts at 6:15 p.m. For more information, go to www.tiogadowns.com.
