This past weekend, the Tregaron Trotting Club of Wales hosted the 25th edition of its three-day Festival of Harness Racing modeled on the Delaware County Fair, and Crown Manhattan turned in a World Record performance in the Western Power Electric Mile

.

Crown Manhattan, which was one of six pacers chosen by the public to participate in the record attempt, posted the fastest mile on a half-mile grass track in 2:12.1.

“As far as we could ascertain there was no official record for a mile run on a half mile turf track,” Tregaron Trotting Club chairman Huw Evans told Trot Insider. “This is the first year that we had the track officially verified for distance and the mile properly marked out. Although the previous track record was 2.01, the distance had not been verified by an external body.

“We believe that the time of 2:12.1 (set in very wet conditions) is the World Record as it is the first time the track distance and all other regulations have been complied with. It is there to be broken!”

The Meadows and Little Brown Jug announcer Roger Huston journeyed overseas to call the race, which can seen here courtesy of S4/C.
