Update On Pompano Auction
The Pompano Park auction scheduled for August 5 and 6 at Pompano Park in south Florida has evolved into a “mega-auction” according to sales manager Jim Brown.
The two-day extravaganza will feature over 4,000 items in over 1,500 lots and will include memorabilia dating back to the track’s infancy in 1964, including art, murals, and signage.
The auction will also include restaurant equipment, a boom truck and new storage sheds.
There will be a two-day preview of all lots in the sale on August 3 and 4.
Sale manager Jim Brown is especially excited about the legendary bars, which will also be part of the auction.
“One of the most iconic items in the auction is the ‘Jackie Gleason’ bar, so named in honour of the many visits to the track by famed entertainer Jackie Gleason.
“We also will feature the classical horse head that adorned the property since opening day in 1964.”
The auction will also feature a 20-seat transportation vehicle, with accommodations for those with disabilities.
Lead auctioneer Mike Baker added, “In compiling the inventory for the sale, we have found a ‘treasure trove’ of items going on the bidding block—literally a ‘treasure trove’ of valuable and historical lots.
“This is such a rare event that we expect collectors from points far away will participate and we’ve made it easy for all to get involved, either by being there in person or bidding by proxibid.com.”
The Sunday, August 5 session will begin at noon and will include vintage memorabilia, signage, themed props and historical racing items.
The Monday, August 6 session will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will feature commercial and industrial equipment, including bar, lounge and restaurant equipment, vehicles, track and grounds maintenance equipment, restaurant and kitchen equipment, bar stools, tables, lounge chairs and other general restaurant and institutional equipment and supplies.
Photographs of many items in this historic event can be found on midwest-auctioneers.com.
For those participating from afar via the internet, registration will begin on July 31, while registration for those attending the live auction can register beginning August 3 during the two-day preview.
