Campbell On 'Dial's Return
Racing fans have been anticipating the return of Dial or Nodial since the son of Western Ideal suffered an injury in the $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup at Mohawk
Racetrack in June. Trot Insider has spoken with trainer Jim Campbell, who will be sending the gelding postward tomorrow morning during Mohawk's qualifying session.
"His last three weeks have been really good," Campbell said of the 2009 New Jersey Classic winner, which will be participating in Race 9 Friday morning.
Dial Or Nodial had suffered a blood bruise under a bone in its foot during the NA Cup.
Dial Or Nodial, which will be starting from Post 2 with John Campbell driving, is not the only superstar scheduled to contest Race 9 during the qualifying session.
Having not raced a charted mile since its 1:50 victory in the $500,000 Battle of the Brandywine on August 16, the multiple stakes winning Western Hanover colt Well Said will be starting from the rail in the dash.
Continuing on about Dial Or Nodial, a career winner of 11 races and $717,590, Campbell stated that son of Western Ideal may race in another qualifier or an overnight before coming back to tackle stakes fields.
"We'll have a better read on him on Friday," Campbell said. "He's got natural speed that comes easy to him, so we're not necessarily looking for him to go a particular time with his mile. We're going to focus on the way he does it.
In addition to Dial Or Nodial and Well Said, 2008 O'Brien Award winner St Lads Popcorn (PP3, Jason Brewer) and Michelles Power (PP5, Jody Jamieson) will also be contesting Race 9.
