J J S Jet Prevails In Paul Bunyan Pace
Canadian-owned J J S Jet went from last to first to take the 25th annual Paul Bunyan Pace at Bangor Raceway on Friday, July 20.
Last at the race's mid-point, J J S Jet circled a field of five to claim the lion's share of the $20,000 purse for owner Bruce Maxwell of Saint John, N.B.
Driven by Drew Campbell, the nine-year-old Jeremes Jet gelding went three-wide from the backfield around the first-over favourite and eventual breaker Bet You and defeated pacesetter Delightful Offer N (:28.1, :58, 1:26.1) by a half-length in 1:54.4. Vegas Dream, who was interfered with by the stretch breaker and sustained broken equipment, finished over four lengths behind in third with Bo Master fourth.
Sent postward as the 8-5 second wagering choice, J J S Jet paid $5.40 to win.
The James Dunn trainee has now earned three consecutive victories at Bangor to push his career win total to 48 and lifetime earnings to $240,093.
