Single White Sock Upsets At Grand River
Following a five-win Thursday night at Rideau Carleton, driver Brett MacDonald continued his winning momentum on Friday at Grand River Raceway guiding Single White Sock to victory in the featured $11,500 Preferred 2 Pace.
Single White Sock journeyed first-over from mid-field after a :28 opening quarter and reeled in pacesetter Mister X through middle splits of :57.3 and 1:26.2. He took over command in the stretch and held off Boomboom Ballykeel and the pylon-skimming favourite, Adore Him, by three-quarters of a length to win in 1:55.1.
The six-year-old Badlands Hanover-Love You Dear gelding is trained by Ted MacDonnell and owned by Leonard Gamble of Etobicoke, Ont.
Sent postward at odds of 6-1 in search of his first victory this year in 21 starts, he paid $15.20 to win.
With MacDonald aboard for the first time in his 130-race career, Single White Socks notched his 10th victory lifetime and bumped his bankroll to $213,201.
