Illegal Crop Mistakenly Used
According to a report by the Toronto Star, thoroughbred Sans Sousi may be disqualified from its victory last night after it was found that top Woodbine Racetrack jockey Chantal Sutherland mistakenly used what is now considered a banned
racing crop during the contest.
Sutherland's crop violation came during what was the first Woodbine card contested under new Ontario Racing Commission rules. Earlier this week, Woodbine jockeys discussed the changes.
According to the Toronto Star story, Sutherland accepting full responsibility for the costly mix-up. "It was totally my fault, I forgot," she was quoted as saying.
Sutherland's mount, Sans Sousi, may have to forfeit the $40,080 winner's share of the $66,800 purse. The Bold Executive filly is owned by Eaton Hall Farm and trainer Mike Doyle.
The Toronto Star report states that there will be a hearing today regarding the incident.

The Cup and Saucer illegal
The Cup and Saucer illegal entry was one thing as the owners knew ahead of time but this is ridiculous.
A warning/fine/suspension etc. to the jockey is sufficient.
The owners have no power over what equipment the jockey carries.
When a driver goes on the
When a driver goes on the track... The owner of the horse has no more control... why should we lose the purse money ??? I do-not recall any discussion made to penalize the ones that pay the bills ?? If we get rid of are horses... you have no game !! think about it!!!!!!
The owners or bettors should
The owners or bettors should never be penalized for this type of offence.
We can't afford to lose either of these most valuable assets!
Gee I guess the orc judges
Gee I guess the orc judges didnt take each jockey in before the races like kawartha downs did with each driver and completely explain the new rules. Why didnt the paddock judge check each jockey on the way out? They only have 30 minutes between each race there to get it right?
HOLY SMOKES is right,the
HOLY SMOKES is right, the jockey makes a honest mistake and admits to forgeting and the owner loses $40k for doing nothing wrong, what a great idea.punish the owners for something they have no control over.
THIS IS TOTALLY
THIS IS TOTALLY CRAZY.....DOESN,T THE FINE GO TO THE RIDER AS IT DOES IN HARNESS RACING AND NOT THE OWNER? THIS IS GOING WAY TO FAR.MUST LEAVE PEOPLE WONDERING WHAT YOU PEOPLE WILL DO NEXT!
Is the racing commision
Is the racing commision admitting that the use of the old crops gives a jockey an advantage over the old??? Is it also to say that some horses performance will be affected by the new crop and they may not perform as well??? The ORC may want to think careefully before acting in this case. Our future may depend on it.
