Six Pack Breaks World Record In Dancer
Six Pack sat patiently off a swift pace and powered to the front in the stretch, trotting a stakes-, track- and world-record mile of 1:50 in the $181,000 second division of the Stanley Dancer Memorial.
Alarm Detector dashed to the top with Mets Hall getting away second and Six Pack parked in third. Trotting the first quarter in :26.2, Alarm Detector continued to speed on the front as trainer-driver Ake Svanstedt committed first over with Six Pack heading past the half, timed in :54.4.
Six Pack inched towards Alarm Detector circling the final turn with You Know You Do moving off the rail to give chase. Following three-quarters in 1:22.3, Six Pack matched strides with Alarm Detector and soon swept past the pacesetter entering the eighth pole. You Know You Do edged into second, giving chase, while Alarm Detector finished third and Mets Hall fourth.
Winning his fifth race in six starts this season and his ninth in 14 overall, Six Pack, a three-year-old colt by Muscle Mass from the Cantab Hall mare Pleasing Lady, competes for owners Ake Svanstedt Inc., Little E LLC, Stall Kalmar and Lars Berg. He paid $3.40 to win.
“He’s a tough horse,” Svanstedt said after the race. “I had a lot of power coming into the last eighth. I hope he can be sound for three more weeks [for the Hambletonian].”
The previous world mark for three-year-old colt trotters was 1:50.1, set by Donato Hanover in 2007 and equaled by Muscle Hill in 2009.
Returning to the races after winning the Goodtimes final on North America Cup night, Wolfgang regrouped to continue his undefeated season with a 1:51.2 on-the-front effort in the $181,000 first division of the Stanley Dancer.
Hat Trick Habit took control of the pace but soon yielded to Wolfgang advancing first over past a :28 opening quarter. He continued to control the pace, trotting uncontested to the half in :55.4 as Classichap began a bid first over from fifth moving to the far turn.
Evaluate, positioned third, flushed first over in pursuit of Wolfgang approaching the top of the stretch while Hat Trick Habit chased alongside before losing stride past three-quarters in 1:24.1. Wolfgang attempted to maintain a straight course in the stretch, drifting slightly off the pylons but finished about three lengths clear of Classichap taking second and Zephyr Kronos rallying for third. Evaluate held fourth.
Wolfgang won for the third time in three starts this season and for the sixth in 13 overall, earning $519,405 for owners Brixton Medical Inc., Goran Falk, Hatfield Stables and Fair Island Farm. The Jimmy Takter-trained three-year-old by My MVP was driven by Yannick Gingras and returned $3.60 to win.
The Stanley Dancer Memorial was held on the Saturday stakes card at the Meadowlands, with recaps of the other highlighted events available on the 2018 Meadowlands Pace News Centre.
