Classy Mare Makes Local Debut
After defeating the best pacing mares in Canada earlier this year, Ms Mac N Cheese has moved east and will now test the waters at her connections' home track in Atlantic Canada.
And if her seasonal debut at Northside Downs serves as any sort of portent, she'll be having her picture taken regularly.
Ms Mac N Cheese was one of six entered in the $1,200 Winners Over class at the Cape Breton oval. With trainer-owner David Ratchford at the controls, Ms Mac N Cheese was settled into fourth in the early going while Boknows Momngranny (Greg Sparling) carved out the early fractions of :28.2 and :57.4. Elm Grove Ladyluck (Randy Getto) applied the first-over pressure prior to the midway point, providing cover to the favoured Ms Mac N Cheese.
As the field hit the backstretch, Ratchford angled his charge three-wide and cleared Elm Grove Ladyluck to press the pacesetter through a 1:28.4 third panel. These two rivals would continue to tussle and not give way around the turn and into the stretch. Ms Mac N Cheese would eventually wear down her rival and post a quarter-length victory in 1:58.2. Burn Em Up Burr (Gerard Kennedy) completed the triactor.
The win is the 26th lifetime for Ms Mac N Cheese (Badlands Hanover - Mr Delis Filly), who now sports a career bankroll of $751,282.
