'Royalty' Reigns At Inverness Again
After having been a vet’s scratch ‘sick’ last weekend, Eastern Canadian heavyweight Intended Royalty ($3.40) returned to Inverness Raceway on Sunday (July 8) and promptly captured the track’s $1,150 Winners Over Pace in familiar fashion.
After having started from the outside Post 5, the Randy Copley-trained and Redmond Doucet-driven Intended Royalty went straight to the top and made every pole a winning one (:28.1, :57.3, 1:27.4). The seven-year-old gelded son of No Pan Intended came home in :30.4 and nailed the wire a quarter-length the best in 1:58.3.
Doubleshotascotch (who was driven by Ryan Campbell) had started from Post 4 and rode the pocket through the fractions. He was able to make up ground after he vacated the garden spot, but just ran out of real estate late and had to settle for second. R Es Aiden (Rodney Gillis) was ten lengths back after his Post 3 start, but was able to make up ground and earn the third-place cheque.
Intended Royalty, who is owned by Randy Copley and Edward Copley of Inverness, NS, has now won six of his eight seasonal starts. The Sunday win was the 25th of his career, and he is now very close to hitting the $100,000 mark in overall purse earnings.
In terms of handicapping, it wasn’t a bad idea to back Redmond Doucet during the program, as he ended up finishing either first or second in every race on the seven-dash docket. In addition to the featured win with Intended Royalty, Doucet also notched victories in Race 3 with Locky ($6.90) and in Race 4 with Kennairn Fame ($3.40).
